5/1/2023 0 Comments Subtle subversionDebi’s feminism is extraordinarily subtle. Matchbox, and while the extent of the author’s palette remains out of the grasp of most non-Bengali readers, what is represented here contradicts, or at the very least complicates, her reputation as a non-feminist writer. Only 21 of the aforementioned 3,000 stories are collected in Lahiri writes at some length about the author’s critical reception, offering the observation “(A) complaint issued by critics is the author’s supposed conservatism, especially with regards to women’s lives.” This is surprising, especially if one skips the excerpt from Jhumpa Lahiri’s Master’s thesis that serves as the book’s introduction, and returns to it later. The author did not command respect, only recognition. Although widely read, her work was also largely derided for its tendency towards the domestic and the quotidian. She began to publish her work as a teenager, in 1936, and by the time of her death in 1995, had penned a staggering 242 novels and novellas, 62 books for children and over 3,000 short stories. In Debi’s case, that reputation is complicated. It’s a small homage both to the many sub-languages that we speak, write and think in, as well as to the oft-forgotten translator, whose burden it is to prove an author’s entire reputation to a foreign audience. The title page of this new volume of selected stories by Ashapurna Debi carries this evocative credit: “Translated into Bengali English by Prasenjit Gupta”.

I'm very excited to be working with them and their wider team! I've actually been in touch with Alexander for over 2 years already, specifically around publishing King under the Mountain, and everything just lined up on both sides recently that we were able to come up with an arrangement that works for both of us. So who is this mysterious benefactor? A fairly new publisher called Boombox, which is a partnership between Philippe Erwin who brings many, many years of experience in production and business development in games from senior positions at big names like Activision and Warner Bros, and Alexander Poysky of Poysky Productions, who produced Regions of Ruin, Between the Stars and Travellers Rest (among others). In addition, any publisher worth their salt brings with them some great marketing clout - instead of this now being a hobby project with one guy working on it, there's a whole team pushing the game forward, with multiple people dedicated to marketing so many more people should hear about the game, rather than the small niche it's in currently. As to why would I sign up with a publisher when I've already got the game so far along the road to the early access launch? Well, as you can see from the increasingly sporadic dev updates, I just haven't been able to find the time needed around everything else to progress the game - it would have still taken a crazy long time to get the game to Steam from where it was. Some publishers weren't willing or able to invest the amount required to allow me to quit my day job, so that was a non-starter. I've spoken to others who wanted the game completely done and dusted in 18 months time, but I see games in this genre as really benefitting from a long early access period - just look at the growth in gameplay and success of games like Prison Architect and Rimworld. Well on the first point, this is the first time I've spoken to a publisher who really understands the vision for the game. You might even be wondering why it's taken this long for me to sign up with a publisher - or why I have at all with how relatively close the early access launch is. We're aiming at a January 2022 early access launch which is just 6 months away - almost no time at all compared to the time the game has been in development so far! Well, there were a lot of factors that fed into that, but rather than go through them, I just want to share the big news with you all - King under the Mountain has a publishing deal! There's many great parts to this announcement, but perhaps most important is that as of 3 weeks ago, I'm no longer trying (and failing) to fit gamedev around a full time day job and family life, instead thanks to publisher funding I'm now working full time on developing the game! The roadmap is in place, most of the artwork required for it has been created, so now I'm just powering forward to bring the game to Steam Early Access as soon as possible. Hi everyone, it's been far too long since the last dev update for King under the Mountain. 5/1/2023 0 Comments Sean bean deathIn a recent interview with The Sun, Sean Bean stated that he would be rejecting any role in which his character was set to die. He’s reportedly rejecting roles in which he dies Sean Bean played Ned Stark in hit series Game of Thrones (Image: Handout) 7. The scene was later omitted from the movie, but did make it to the extended DVD edition of the film. When the shoot was over and he had flown back to England, director Peter Jackson came up with an elaborate flashback scene, requiring Sean Bean to again jet out to New Zealand. It is said that, while his fellow cast members were journeying by helicopter, they could often see him hiking in costume to the scene’s filming location. Sean Bean is petrified of flying, so much so that during the filming of the ‘Mount Caradhas’ scene in The Fellowship of the Ring, he chose to climb to the top of the mountain for two hours everyday. Though missing out on the titular character to Timothy Dalton, he did later star in a Bond film, playing Bond’s nemesis Alec Trevelyan in 1995’s GoldenEye. In 1987, Sean Bean auditioned for the role of James Bond in The Living Daylights. Only a small change, we know, and it is unclear as to why the star changed the spelling of his first name, but some reports suggest that he adopted the Celtic spelling to enhance his career. Sean Bean’s real birth name is Shaun Mark Bean. His highest grossing performance is in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, where he played Boromir. Sean Bean is worth an estimated $20million, which is roughly just over £16million. Multiple spin-offs are in various stages of production.Sean Bean and his wife Ashley at their wedding in Dorset 3. In a book about the making of Game of Thrones, titled Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon, the episode's director, Alan Taylor, had said that just before his head was chopped off, Bean whispered something to himself. Then I put my head in the block and I was finished for the day." It was very moving with a lot of pathos in that scene. And everybody else's reactions were fantastic - Cersei and the kids. I was very hot at the time, so that probably helped. It wasn't just, 'Oh God, I'm getting my head chopped off.' Those mix of feelings is what made it what it was, I suppose."Ībout filming the scene, he said, "It took like a whole day or so to film it and you so you have to just keep focused on the fact that you're about to meet your death without messing around. He told Entertainment Weekly, "It was horror and disbelief - that Joffrey changed his mind - and then resignation and seeing his daughter for the last time, Arya." He added, "I was trying to think of all four. This has, of course, created a ripe marketplace for some designers to sell or make available widget libraries. And for as long as I can remember, the same basic widget libraries have been available in Axure with what I would consider little modification to them. I’ll put it this way: You couldn’t design without them. The widgets are arguably the most important tool in Axure. But, what I have a more difficult time overlooking is the situation with the widgets. I can overlook the specification issue in Axure since – as I note above – that is not its primary purpose. I am dedicating a future post on this within the next week or two. As a result of the poor spec generation from Axure, I use a completely different set of tools with Axure as a supplement to generate specifications. Last, if you truly want to use Axure for generating specifications, you need to plan well in advance. Specifically, image manipulation (cropping, resizing), better annotation and the ability to control textual flow would be a good start. But, since they added the feature, the least they could have done was to allow greater latitude in the flexibility of the output. Now, in defense of Axure, it is a software package for creating static wireframes and interactive prototypes – not developing specification documentation. It’s simply the flexibility in the layout of the output that bothers me most. “Specs” generated from Axure aren’t particularly aesthetically appealing. The first issue (which has little to do with mobile design) is the specification output. As I see it, there are two major flaws with Axure (and I am referring to the latest version – RP 7). While Axure would have worked for this project in a pinch, it wasn’t ideal. Overall, I have become increasingly attached to it and while I still use Adobe here and there when the need for aesthetics is higher, Axure is clearly a staple for me. Now, for the past 3-4 years, I have slowly and steadily migrated to using Axure 95 percent of the time to design and prototype interfaces. I needed something a bit more high fidelity than your standard boxes and arrows wireframes – something a little more like a “comp,” but still functional if we needed to add interactions. So this seemed like an exciting opportunity to take on a new set of challenges – the largest of which has been finding the right design tool for the job. Most of my experience with mobile equates to coordinating the desktop design with the mobile. There was some documentation attached explaining a highly conceptual group of mobile applications.
