5/1/2023 0 Comments Subtle subversionDebi’s feminism is extraordinarily subtle. Matchbox, and while the extent of the author’s palette remains out of the grasp of most non-Bengali readers, what is represented here contradicts, or at the very least complicates, her reputation as a non-feminist writer. Only 21 of the aforementioned 3,000 stories are collected in Lahiri writes at some length about the author’s critical reception, offering the observation “(A) complaint issued by critics is the author’s supposed conservatism, especially with regards to women’s lives.” This is surprising, especially if one skips the excerpt from Jhumpa Lahiri’s Master’s thesis that serves as the book’s introduction, and returns to it later. The author did not command respect, only recognition. Although widely read, her work was also largely derided for its tendency towards the domestic and the quotidian. She began to publish her work as a teenager, in 1936, and by the time of her death in 1995, had penned a staggering 242 novels and novellas, 62 books for children and over 3,000 short stories. In Debi’s case, that reputation is complicated. It’s a small homage both to the many sub-languages that we speak, write and think in, as well as to the oft-forgotten translator, whose burden it is to prove an author’s entire reputation to a foreign audience. The title page of this new volume of selected stories by Ashapurna Debi carries this evocative credit: “Translated into Bengali English by Prasenjit Gupta”.

I'm very excited to be working with them and their wider team! I've actually been in touch with Alexander for over 2 years already, specifically around publishing King under the Mountain, and everything just lined up on both sides recently that we were able to come up with an arrangement that works for both of us. So who is this mysterious benefactor? A fairly new publisher called Boombox, which is a partnership between Philippe Erwin who brings many, many years of experience in production and business development in games from senior positions at big names like Activision and Warner Bros, and Alexander Poysky of Poysky Productions, who produced Regions of Ruin, Between the Stars and Travellers Rest (among others). In addition, any publisher worth their salt brings with them some great marketing clout - instead of this now being a hobby project with one guy working on it, there's a whole team pushing the game forward, with multiple people dedicated to marketing so many more people should hear about the game, rather than the small niche it's in currently. As to why would I sign up with a publisher when I've already got the game so far along the road to the early access launch? Well, as you can see from the increasingly sporadic dev updates, I just haven't been able to find the time needed around everything else to progress the game - it would have still taken a crazy long time to get the game to Steam from where it was. Some publishers weren't willing or able to invest the amount required to allow me to quit my day job, so that was a non-starter. I've spoken to others who wanted the game completely done and dusted in 18 months time, but I see games in this genre as really benefitting from a long early access period - just look at the growth in gameplay and success of games like Prison Architect and Rimworld. Well on the first point, this is the first time I've spoken to a publisher who really understands the vision for the game. You might even be wondering why it's taken this long for me to sign up with a publisher - or why I have at all with how relatively close the early access launch is. We're aiming at a January 2022 early access launch which is just 6 months away - almost no time at all compared to the time the game has been in development so far! Well, there were a lot of factors that fed into that, but rather than go through them, I just want to share the big news with you all - King under the Mountain has a publishing deal! There's many great parts to this announcement, but perhaps most important is that as of 3 weeks ago, I'm no longer trying (and failing) to fit gamedev around a full time day job and family life, instead thanks to publisher funding I'm now working full time on developing the game! The roadmap is in place, most of the artwork required for it has been created, so now I'm just powering forward to bring the game to Steam Early Access as soon as possible. Hi everyone, it's been far too long since the last dev update for King under the Mountain. 5/1/2023 0 Comments Sean bean deathIn a recent interview with The Sun, Sean Bean stated that he would be rejecting any role in which his character was set to die. He’s reportedly rejecting roles in which he dies Sean Bean played Ned Stark in hit series Game of Thrones (Image: Handout) 7. The scene was later omitted from the movie, but did make it to the extended DVD edition of the film. When the shoot was over and he had flown back to England, director Peter Jackson came up with an elaborate flashback scene, requiring Sean Bean to again jet out to New Zealand. It is said that, while his fellow cast members were journeying by helicopter, they could often see him hiking in costume to the scene’s filming location. Sean Bean is petrified of flying, so much so that during the filming of the ‘Mount Caradhas’ scene in The Fellowship of the Ring, he chose to climb to the top of the mountain for two hours everyday. Though missing out on the titular character to Timothy Dalton, he did later star in a Bond film, playing Bond’s nemesis Alec Trevelyan in 1995’s GoldenEye. In 1987, Sean Bean auditioned for the role of James Bond in The Living Daylights. Only a small change, we know, and it is unclear as to why the star changed the spelling of his first name, but some reports suggest that he adopted the Celtic spelling to enhance his career. Sean Bean’s real birth name is Shaun Mark Bean. His highest grossing performance is in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, where he played Boromir. Sean Bean is worth an estimated $20million, which is roughly just over £16million. Multiple spin-offs are in various stages of production.Sean Bean and his wife Ashley at their wedding in Dorset 3. Then I put my head in the block and I was finished for the day." It was very moving with a lot of pathos in that scene. And everybody else's reactions were fantastic - Cersei and the kids. I was very hot at the time, so that probably helped. It wasn't just, 'Oh God, I'm getting my head chopped off.' Those mix of feelings is what made it what it was, I suppose."Ībout filming the scene, he said, "It took like a whole day or so to film it and you so you have to just keep focused on the fact that you're about to meet your death without messing around. He told Entertainment Weekly, "It was horror and disbelief - that Joffrey changed his mind - and then resignation and seeing his daughter for the last time, Arya." He added, "I was trying to think of all four. This has, of course, created a ripe marketplace for some designers to sell or make available widget libraries. And for as long as I can remember, the same basic widget libraries have been available in Axure with what I would consider little modification to them. I’ll put it this way: You couldn’t design without them. The widgets are arguably the most important tool in Axure. But, what I have a more difficult time overlooking is the situation with the widgets. I can overlook the specification issue in Axure since – as I note above – that is not its primary purpose. I am dedicating a future post on this within the next week or two. As a result of the poor spec generation from Axure, I use a completely different set of tools with Axure as a supplement to generate specifications. Last, if you truly want to use Axure for generating specifications, you need to plan well in advance. Specifically, image manipulation (cropping, resizing), better annotation and the ability to control textual flow would be a good start. But, since they added the feature, the least they could have done was to allow greater latitude in the flexibility of the output. Now, in defense of Axure, it is a software package for creating static wireframes and interactive prototypes – not developing specification documentation. It’s simply the flexibility in the layout of the output that bothers me most. “Specs” generated from Axure aren’t particularly aesthetically appealing. The first issue (which has little to do with mobile design) is the specification output. As I see it, there are two major flaws with Axure (and I am referring to the latest version – RP 7). While Axure would have worked for this project in a pinch, it wasn’t ideal. Overall, I have become increasingly attached to it and while I still use Adobe here and there when the need for aesthetics is higher, Axure is clearly a staple for me. Now, for the past 3-4 years, I have slowly and steadily migrated to using Axure 95 percent of the time to design and prototype interfaces. I needed something a bit more high fidelity than your standard boxes and arrows wireframes – something a little more like a “comp,” but still functional if we needed to add interactions. So this seemed like an exciting opportunity to take on a new set of challenges – the largest of which has been finding the right design tool for the job. Most of my experience with mobile equates to coordinating the desktop design with the mobile. There was some documentation attached explaining a highly conceptual group of mobile applications. Happy testing, and as usual, if you have any questions a member of our support team would love to help you out.A few weeks back, I get an email one evening from the boss asking if I can take on a new project. On ApEnigmo was released for the Windows Phone 7 platform. This version of the game is credited to Pangea Software and Beatshapers. It was initially free for Playstation Plus members, and is currently available to everyone for $3.99. Playstation Network ReleasesOn February 28, 2011, Enigmo was released on Playstation Network as one of the "Playstation minis", playable on either the PS3 or PSP. Although the game claims to be in 3D, it is actually played in only two dimensions, although the tools and obstacles are all rendered in three dimensions. These tools are limited in number and type in each level, and include springboards which redirect the momentum of the liquid at an angle by "bouncing" and may boost the momentum by a little or a lot short or long slides, which simply redirect the direction of the liquid without modifying its momentum the sponge, which absorbs all momentum and then drops the liquid straight down when the saturation point is reached and the particle accelerator, which greatly increases the momentum of any droplets that enter it from the correct angle. GameplayThe player places various tools around the board to direct each of the three liquids to its respective destination. If the solution is not implemented before the bonus is depleted, no score will be gained for that level. ScoringAt the beginning of each level is an automatic tour of the source and destination, and the user may move the camera around the level to inspect the obstacles, but as soon as the level begins (that is, once the player begins to place objects in the stage), the bonus counter begins to count down to zero. Initially, only 5 levels are available, but as each level is completed, another is unlocked. All fluids are expressed as droplets which may be maneuvered by various tools which bounce, slide, launch, or collate the droplets along user-controlled paths around various obstacles which also bounce, slide, or even absorb the droplets. Depending on the level, the player may need to fill only the water container, or water and oil, or all three. Touch more expensive than app store (30p) but still a very well priced game.ConceptThe goal of Enigmo is to fill each container (water, oil, and lava) with 40 drops of its respective liquid by guiding the droplets from a source to a container using various tools.  The faster you complete each level, the more bonus points you will receive!  You move and rotate the various puzzle pieces in order to divert the flow of the falling droplets so that they can reach their target.  Water, oil, and lava droplets fall from “droppers” and will bounce around the walls of a puzzle.  It is a 3D puzzle game where you manipulate slides, bumpers, and other pieces to control streams of flowing liquid. It supports all latest android devices including android tablets and android phones like lollipop and marshmallow. It is a Enigmo apk file and you can install it on your android phone via free download from this page.  Enigmo is the most unique game that you’ll find for the Windows Phone 7. It is a stunning game, very smooth and fluid (hopefully it comes across in the video).  Pinch zoom in to see a closer view and refine the movements, zoom back out to see where the overall flow should be headed. You’ll need to use them in various combinations to redirect the flow of droplets. There are apparently three types of fluid in this game, water, oil and lava droplets. To help you in this task are a bunch of equipment that alters the flow of the droplets, from slides, bounces, sponges etc. Tap to move and you can rotate their position or double tab them to return them to the side. Enigmo is a great little physics puzzle game where you have to direct a specific droplets (falling from a dropper) towards a specific container. The simple book scanning rig, constructed from MDF, large enough to hold a book upto approximately 20x30cm in size. This might sound like overkill for a single book, but it is well worth the effort. The solution to this is to construct some kind of book scanning rig that will support the book such that it opens to an angle somewhere in the region of 110-140 degrees. Even when using a camera, the spine of the book is still a problem as if you simply open the book on a flat surface the pages will curve near the spine leading to uneven illumination & distortion of the text which will ruin OCR accuracy. Instead a digital SLR camera is the preferred tool, with flashgun(s) to provide illumination. For this to work effectively the image has to be evenly illuminated any kind of gradient across the background will confound the monochrome conversion leading to large blocks of text getting lost.Ī flatbed scanner is not a satisfactory way of capturing the pages of the book because it is impossible to get the pages flat without damaging the spine. It converts the input image to monochrome, approximately speaking, by applying a threshold algorithm to the image. Reading about how it works it becomes clear that the biggest factor in accuracy is the quality of the input images. Tesseract just focuses on the core OCR tasks, and leaves image acquisition to other tools likewise post-recognition processing. This dates back into the mid-80’s and was open sourced by HP in 2005. I quickly found the open source Tesseract OCR software which runs on Linux, Windows and OS-X. Transcribing that much content manually was not an enticing prospect, so I started investigating the options for automation. The current copy was written directly on a typewriter and ran to almost 250 pages of very dense text. The official premiere of new items is expected at a large Lenovo event in China on March 21. However, Lenovo also seems to be taking the technology into its arsenal: it is expected to be used in the Yoga Pro Extreme Edition.Īpparently, Lenovo Yoga Pro Extreme Edition will be a 16-inch laptop. It is known that the Supernova SoM module will be used in one of the Asus laptops, but it has not yet been released. The joint “packaging” of these components has a number of advantages: firstly, the physical distance between the RAM and the CPU is reduced to almost a minimum, secondly, the memory operates at a higher frequency, and thirdly, the motherboard can be made more compact. In January of this year, Asus and Intel introduced the Supernova SoM processor module, which integrates the latest generation CPU and LPDDR5X RAM. But the most interesting thing is that instead of the usual CPU, the Supernova SoM processor module will probably be installed here. The device will receive an Intel Core i9-13905H processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop 3D accelerator and 64 GB of RAM. In China, the Lenovo Yoga Pro Extreme Edition laptop lit up live – it will be one of the most powerful models in the Yoga line. |
